Back pain is one of the most common forms of neurological problems that are on the rise. Almost everyone suffers from the condition but most people do not tend to give much importance on it. Back pain can be classified into acute and chronic back pain. Acute back pain is the most common type of back pain that lasts for about a few days to weeks. Whereas chronic back pain is a more serious condition as it is usually the manifestation of an underlying serious condition which requires immediate medical attention. Kidney back pain or back pain caused by kidneys is one such instance.

Back pain due to kidneys can be diagnosed without the help of a physician. However, this does not mean that you should not seek assistance from a physician. To have a brief idea about whether the backache you are experiencing is due to kidney problem or muscle strain, all that you must know is that back pain due to kidney often confines to the region where the kidney is located. Kidney infections, kidney stone, urinary tract infections etc. can also cause severe back pain which if not treated well in time, can spread to other parts of the body and cause complications.

Though there are a number of ways which can be adopted to differentiate between the normal backaches that occur from strains and that which is caused by kidneys, but the easiest method is finding the area where the pain is confined.  Following are some of the symptoms that signify the discomfort caused by kidney problems:

1) Swelling and weight gain

2) Change in the urine color, blood in the urine

3) Fever, chills

4) Pain during urination

5) Pain in the lower back

In addition to this, the pain would be more localized and occur suddenly, which may be improved or worsened by certain positions. Kidney back pain may not always be due to kidney infection. It can sometimes be due to injuries as well. It is not very difficult to identify whether the pain that is traumatizing you, is due to an injury or an infection. Be sensitive enough to notice the symptoms, so that you can diagnose the condition in time to initiate appropriate medication.
