Yeast infection is caused by the Candida fungus that is available in abundance in our body. When this particular fungus outnumbers then it leads to causing what we usually refer to as yeast infection. This infection occurs most commonly in the vagina area and the internal digestive tract of both the sexes. However, this infection most commonly occurs in women than in men. About 75% of the people are affected by yeast infection.

In women, yeast infection most commonly occurs around the vagina area. It produces a discharge like cottage cheese that causes itchiness, irritation and sometimes a burning sensation when passing urine. In addition to these symptoms, it can also exhibit swollenness, pain, and discomfort during sex.

There are a number of causes for the growth of yeast infection. Some of them are wearing tight and unclean inner clothing, use of deodorants and perfumes, low immunity level, birth control pills, diabetic conditions etc.

For the treatment of this condition, a number of over-the-counter medications or course prescription are available. However, in due course of time, this can prove expensive to those who suffer from recurring yeast infection. So, the only way out is to seek home remedies for the condition.

There are a number of home remedies available for yeast infection which provides effective treatments. One of them is the baking soda. Baking soda is used to balance the pH level. Those who are strictly under sodium-restricted diet should avoid this as it can lead to serious condition. Some of the ways through which baking soda can be used for the treatment are as follows:

1) Mix a tablespoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water and drink it. It tastes awful so if you want you can hold your nose. But if you have a weak stomach then you may end throwing up so better not to try it. However, it works effectively so choice is yours.

2) Another way of getting relief from the yeast infection is to take a warm baking soda bath. Add about 1/2 cup of baking soda every bath in lukewarm water. Soak yourself in the bath for about 15-20 minutes twice everyday until the symptoms are gone. Dry the affected area completely with a clean towel.

3) After every meal, brush your teeth with baking soda. Take a little bit of baking soda powder and brush your teeth with it. Rinse your mouth with 1/2 cup warm water and 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide. Replace the toothbrush once you recover.

However, before you attempt any sort of treatment of the yeast infection, first consult with your doctor. It is very important to confirm whether the infection you are suffering from is yeast infection and no other disease.

Thanks for such an informative posts.
Yeast infections are more than common these days because of the pollution around. Thus it becomes quite difficult to get rid of the fungal infection.
Direct application of yoghurt is also helpful in treating the infection.
Can we add baking soda to milk or any other food that we consume instead of applying?
Honey, how am I supposed to use the yoghurt? What I mean is how am I supposed to apply. Could you elaborate a little more on it?
My girlfriend had a yeast infection ones and passed it on to me. I tried the creams over the counter but it did not work so well and it was a very uncomfortable. I used natural yogurt on it and although messy it was very reliving feeling and worked great.. Y read of girls using a turkey baster to apply the yogurt.. Best thing out there!
You can dip a tampon applicator in plain yogurt and then insert (you won't leave the tampon in, just use the applicator to get the yogurt inside). Do this at least twice a day. You can do this along with the baking soda baths, which really do help a lot.
I heard a yoghurt Popsicle is supposed to be really helpful for women with yeast infection. Take a latex glove and fill the fingers with probiotic live yoghurt. Freeze for 1-2 hours until solid and then insert into the vagina. Gives relief when swollen and then helps to fight infection and return PH balance to normal. I'm off to buy some yoghurt now, and the soda bath has given some relief.
Av tried all home remedies and treatment bt keeps reccurring, mayb it's not a yeast infection or is it bcoz am pregnant?
hi Eunice, u may b right! in ur case, a physical examination is must! whenever u have any doubt about being pregnant, don't ever use any home remedy or medication, as anything can harm the growing fetus inside ur womb. Its only u who knows about the chances of pregnancy.. so, be careful next time! and if ur test results in negative, then feel free to share ur query with us! we will definitely help u out dear! rest, take care n wish u all the best! regards, HealthCareVeda Team
