Dandelion Root for Acne - Home Remedies
Dandelion root as well as its leaves and flowers, because of the richness in Vitamin A, C, D and B complex, are one of the best home remedies for acne. The name is derived from the French which means "tooth of a lion". Dandelion is also rich in iron, potassium and zinc and has a number of medicinal values. This herb is also known as cankerworm, wild endive etc. It was earlier used to deal with problems such as indigestion, liver problems, kidney and gallbladder malfunctioning. It has been used in Chinese medicine which helps in addressing breast problems as well.
The dandelion plant was also known to be useful in the treatment of various skin problems, other than acne, such as eczema, blisters, boils, burns, warts moles etc. Of all the herbal medications, dandelion roots and leaves are the best known for their effectiveness and medicinal value.
These herbs when used in the right way are highly effective for the treatment of acne. In order to address the problem of acne effectively, it is necessary to address the root cause of acne. Liver is one of the main organs that are related to acne outbreak. If the liver fails to function properly, then the toxins and hormones that need to be removed still remain intact and further aggravate the condition of acne. Following are some of the ways through which dandelion root, leaves and flowers can be used for acne cure:
1) Dandelion leaves: Warm up mug, sprinkle in two ounces fresh dandelion leaves. Pour boiling water into mug, let steep for up to 15 minutes. Add honey or sugar if desired. Recommendation: Sip one cup up to three times daily, hot or cold.
2) Dandelion root: Take on dandelion root, slice into small pieces and squeeze a bit. Pour into one cup water in saucepan, bring to a boil. Gently simmer for up to 15 minutes, and then pour into cup. Add honey or sugar if desired. Recommendation: drink one cup of this herbal brew thrice daily.
3) Dandelion herb: Chop a dandelion herb and mix with one cup vodka. Cover and store for two weeks in cool area, shaking several times daily. Strain, and then gently pour into sealed dark bottle. Recommendation: Mix tincture (10 – 15 drops) with cup of water thrice daily.
4) Dandelion Herbal Tea: Dandelion tea is also known as 'acne tea'. Steep dandelion leaves in 1 cup of water for 10 minutes. You will need to drink the tea daily for several weeks before the skin-clarifying effect will become evident.
Although herbs, if used the right way, are quite beneficial for acne. Dandelion herb functions both as diuretic and detoxifier. Most people consider this plant a weed and try to get rid of it more than often. However, giving a try using dandelion to treat acne is not a bad idea.
