Study: Poor Eating Habits may lead to Anemia in Older Women
This study was published in the Journal of American Dietetic Association. It says that there is a greater risk of the development of anemia in postmenopausal women. The researchers analyzed data from 72,833 older women in US. And they found that deficiencies in more than a single nutrient was linked with a 21 percent increase in the risk of persistent anemia. This risk increased 44 percent with the lack of three nutrients. Women with anemia had less intake of protein, folate, vitamin B12 and C, iron and red meat than those who were not having this problem. And this data was less prevalent in whites than in any other ethnic group. In fact, body mass index (BMI) and smoking were also related to anemia. Other than this, its even associated with the risk of death at times.
