Polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS is a disease which is mainly caused due to the high levels of androgen hormones. So, knowing its symptoms is very important as this problem can even cause infertility in women. One of the most noticeable signs of this distress is chronic weight gain. It may be caused because you may develop an increase in your appetite level. If you have always been fit then with the occurrence of this problem you may slowly show the symptoms of obesity. This can also give rise to the illnesses of hypertension or high blood pressure and an increased amount of cholesterol level in your body. Acne- Due to the imbalance in the hormonal levels with the problem of PCOS, a woman may suffer from the outbreak of acne and hair growth on the face and body. There may also occur thick hair on the face, chest, back, arms and leg areas. However, some women may even face the problem of thinning of hair on their scalp.

Menstruation problems- As a result of the sickness of polycystic ovary syndrome, many women suffer from menstrual problems. It generally results in heavy period which may last for more than 30 days also. But some women may even face a complete absence of periods.

Skin changes- There may occur some skin tags or small growths on the skin as a result of PCOS. These skin marks commonly develop on the neck or armpit areas. In some cases, women may begin to see a pigment change on their neck, armpits and thigh portions. This sort of pigmentation may also occur under the breast areas of a woman. It changes the natural color of the skin to a much darker hue.

Baldness- Sometimes, a woman may begin to notice a reducing hairline or balding of the scalp with the problem of polycystic ovary syndrome. Also with a change in male to female hormones, there may occur the distress of "male-pattern baldness’’ in women who are suffering from PCOS.

Infertility- Because polycystic ovary syndrome problem affects the reproductive system of a woman, so there may arise the distress of infertility. In this illness, the ovaries may produce fewer eggs or completely stop producing them. So, there occurs a decrease in the chances of the patients of this disease to become pregnant.

Women suffering from PCOS become insulin resistant which results in the high levels of blood sugar amounts. It gives rise to the problem of type 2 diabetes. Other than this, there is also the risk of the development of certain ill health conditions in the patients of this problem. It includes the risk of the problems of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, endometrial cancer, heart disease, sleep apnea and uterine bleeding.
